When Helping Isn’t Helpful

When Helping Isn’t Helpful
September 27, 2021

Healthy, interpersonal relationships often involve being of service. But when a friend, family member, or co-worker is constantly asking for assistance…they might be in an unhealthy cycle of not taking care of their own responsibilities and expecting others to fulfill that role. When someone is constantly in crisis and reaching out for help, remember that saying ‘no’ is an option. If they are not pleased with this, that is not the measuring stick for your self-worth. If people get upset when you prioritize yourself, it can be a sign that you’ve been participating in an unhealthy relationship…and have finally begun having a healthy relationship with yourself.
