Dr. Joe Taravella

Dr. Joe Taravella is a board certified clinical psychologist (CA & NY) by the American Board of Professional Psychology, author, and media consultant with a private practice in Los Angeles. He previously served as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department
of Rehabilitation Medicine at NYU School of Medicine. His clinical work is based in cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, assisting clients with a variety of congenital, emotional, and traumatic disorders.

Dr. Joe’s expertise lies in identifying and treating neurological, behavioral, and environmental problems that cause breakdowns and turmoil. Dr. Joe has been instrumental in getting individuals to achieve breakthroughs by revealing secrets in a safe and effective manner, and has created The Secret Box® and Dr. Joe’s Secret Box®, a breakthrough therapeutic tool used to help individuals, children, and families in crisis by turning relationship breakdowns into relationship breakthroughs.

Dr. Joe received his master’s degree in General-Experimental Psychology, and his master’s degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Marital and Family Therapy at St. John’s University in New York. He received his clinical training at
Bellevue Hospital and New York University-Langone Medical Center in New York City. During his tenure at NYU, Dr. Joe conducted neuropsychological assessments for pediatric and adult inpatients with intractable seizures at the NYU Comprehensive Epilepsy Center.
He spent several years as an Intern, Resident, and a Staff Psychologist in the Adult and Pediatric Psychology Departments at NYU-Langone Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, with a focus in rehabilitation, neuropsychology, and family systems. Dr. Joe completed a Pediatric Neuropsychological Fellowship at the Rusk Institute working as part of a comprehensive team in both inpatient and outpatient settings, conducting neuropsychological evaluations and therapeutic treatments for children with a variety of congenital disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, as well as psychological and psychiatric disorders. He also served as the Supervisor of Pediatric Psychology and Co-director of Psychology Intern Training at NYU-Langone Rusk Rehabilitation.

Dr. Joe and colleague, Dr. Stacey Bromberg, are the founders of Forward Footsteps, LLC, a publishing company with a focus on young children and caregivers, which promotes support, encouragement, and respect for all families. Their first two books, Hugs of Three: My Mommies and Me and Hugs of Three: My Daddies and Me, guide readers towards a respect for all families and acknowledges the importance of a loving connection between children and their parents. Dr. Joe proudly served on the Board of Directors for Kid Angel Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps underserved children and families from distressed communities move toward positive social and economic mobility. He previously worked as the Director of Psychological Services at Moretto & Racco Medical Associates, where he provided consultation and treatment to patients, in addition to a private practice in New York City.

In addition to his several advanced degrees and years of clinical training under his belt, Dr. Joe will tell you that his best training has been raising his own three children who are all fourteen months apart in age. He is living his own dream of having a family and has dedicated his life to helping others fulfill their dreams by evolving toward a healthy and rewarding existence.
