Worry Is Not Preparation

Worry Is Not Preparation
January 25, 2021

Sometimes people are raised in a home where they are taught that worry was an expression of love. Why, only a person who cared about you would worry about you. Right?

Worry might be born out of care and concern, however, when children are chronically exposed to worry, they can lose their inherent ability to be daring, take risks, and explore. Adults who constantly worry create what is known as anticipatory anxiety.

Feeling anxiety about a negative outcome that may – or may not – happen doesn’t make anyone more prepared. In fact, sometimes it can sap the energy needed to face and conquer difficulties. Instead of worrying, build strength by reflecting on all the times and challenges where things did work out. “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.” Leo Buscaglia
